Investments
My investments rest on the conviction that the effects of climate change are arriving faster, are more severe and reach into more parts of the economy than most businesses, investors and governments expect. Heat, water stress, pests, the loss of ecosystems and disrupted trade create problems that will have to be solved, whether or not anyone is ready. Some founders see this early and are building solutions now, at a stage where capital for adaptation is still scarce. I back some of them, where there is a customer who benefits and can pay. In my essay I call that the part of adaptation that is investable today.
I invest in early-stage companies, primarily with the angel syndicates Resist VC and UpRoot Capital. The adaptation-related investments I hold are listed below.
Nothing on this page is investment advice or an offer to invest.
ThermoShade
Cooling panels that make the space under outdoor shade structures markedly cooler. They use no water and are designed to run off-grid.
N4EA
Data and forecasts on the risk of disruption to global trade, down to single ports and routes, for supply chain, finance and insurance teams.
Pheromones and other attractants for controlling mosquitoes and other pests that spread disease.
Bluesonde
Small solar-powered buoys that measure water quality in real time, for ports, water managers, fish farms and researchers.
Cryogenx
A portable device that rapidly cools the body of a person with heatstroke, for defence, emergency services, sport and industry.
Semion
Treatments that restore the natural defences against pests that crops lost during domestication, to reduce crop losses and pesticide use.

Projects and collaborations
The Shift. Daniel Schmitz-Remberg, Axel Franck and I came up with the idea for The Shift, a conference series on how companies adapt to climate change. The first edition took place in Berlin in November 2024; my closing words from that day are on this site. Since 2025, Handelsblatt has organised the series, rebranded as the Corporate Climate Adaptation Conference. DSR & Partners remains involved as a partner.
The Adaptation Exchange. The Adaptation Exchange is a coalition of companies, banks, insurers, solution providers and experts that helps companies move from recognising physical climate risk to acting on it. I lead its working group on the Adaptation Stack: a structured map of the adaptation solutions that already exist and work, built together with the companies in the coalition.
DSR & Partners. I am an equity partner at DSR & Partners, a firm that advises companies on climate adaptation. The firm initiated The Shift, and also founded and hosts the Adaptation Exchange. If your company needs support on adaptation, that is where I work on it.
Connecting research, companies and investors. Some of the solutions that adaptation needs do not exist yet, or exist only in a laboratory. I work to connect researchers and founders with companies and investors, so that such solutions get built, financed and used. Part of this is venture building: I advise on setting up a programme that turns research from European laboratories into companies. This work includes adaptation but is not limited to it.
My other roles are described on the About page.
